California [US], December 5: NBC on December 5 quoted Butte County Police (California, USA) saying that a shooter committed suicide after injuring two children at Feather River Seventh-day Adventist Elementary School in Oroville.
The incident happened around 1 p.m. on December 4 (local time) and the shooter was an adult male who did not work at the school, according to Butte County Sheriff Kory Honea.
Two children were taken to hospital with gunshot wounds, one of whom was airlifted by helicopter. Their identities and conditions are unknown.
Mr. Honea said the shooting was "both horrifying and tragic." A 911 call from the school said someone inside had shot at students.
"Upon arrival, we located an adult male. He had collapsed, apparently from a self-inflicted gunshot wound," Honea said.
The sheriff did not release the shooter's identity when speaking to reporters at the scene after the incident. He said investigators were able to establish the shooter's identity and were working to confirm the information.
"We are in the very early stages of the investigation. There are still many questions that we are working to answer," he said.
The motive for the crime is not yet known. Feather River School is a private school with about 35 students. It serves students ages 5-13. Students at the school were temporarily evacuated to a location about 15 kilometers away, where they were picked up by family members
